From the moment I started neonatal nursing, over 20 years ago in one of Australia's largest NICU/Special Care Nurseries, the thing I loved the most was empowering parents with the knowledge, support and confidence in themselves, to successfully parent, the way they wanted to. I found it so rewarding watching the confidence of those families grow along with their happiness. 

It wasn't until I had babies of my own, who each had their own unique feeding challenges, that I really  began to understand, just how important that expert, non judgemental support was. When I finally found my own supportive expert, she saved my feeding journey, my health and really, also changed my career path.

I knew then, that I wanted to help new parents the way I had been helped and the best way I could do that, was to respect, support, empower and most of all listen to what parents needed and then provide them with individualised care and options. 

So while I worked with babies and families in NICU to gain valuable nursing experience with complex neonatal conditions and cases, I also continued to further my education and profession, purely so I could support parents in a family centred, evidence based and respectful way.
